Third World Countries

  • What is a third world country?
A third world country is a country considered not as wealthy or not as well off. After the cold war II the countries from all around the world split into two groups the NATO group and the Communist Bloc. But there was a group of countries that didn't join any group and those countries are considered a third world countries.

North Korea:

North Korea is lead by Kim Jong Un, is one of the third world countries and today very few people are allowed to go there as its sealed off from the rest of the world. North Korea is considered a very un-pleasant place to be and everyone who lives there is very patriotic. They think that everyone outside of North Korea is bad and everyone is against them.

45min Inquiry

A Rose by any other name

What does it mean?

The meaning is the name is just something they are called by and has nothing of great value and they cant be judged by it. So you cant judge people by their name its what they are that you have the right to.

Where was it used?

It was by William Shakespeare (1564-1616) in part II and scene II. A Rose by any other name was used in the play Romeo and Juliet, where Juliet is standing on a balcony and Romeo is hiding beneath. She was discussing to herself that the name of Romeos last had nothing of importance and value to who he was.

Background information:

Romeo thought to see juliet dead and commits suicide, but juliet was asleep and wakes up to find him dead. And again juliet commits suicide herself leaving both dead.

45 Min Inquiry

Where did I come from?

The logs come from all around New Zealand and can be imported from other countries, which C3 (a logging company) has been doing for 50 years. C3 sort through 23million logs per year and produce 300,000 tonnes of wood chips per year as well. C3 mainly gather pine wood and each and every one will be recorded.

Some background information:
C3 started its well known company in Tauranga and its first overseas export was to china with 158 tonnes of logs. With tauranga having its own logging ground it earns 14% profit of all money made in Tauranga. Before the Europeans came to Nz it was 80% forestry and when you order a tree you must plant 3 more to repopulate what you have taken.

Where are they taking me?
Once logs have been gathered they will go through to other countries needing or be turned into planks to build houses and other buildings. They will go in and be cut up into wood chips as fertilizer or paper/cardboard or chip wood

Curling

What is curling?
Curling is a sport that originated in scotland but can not be told how it came. It is based on sliding a stone along ice and getting it as close to the center ring as possible. The idea as told before is to try get as close to the center ring as possible and on the other team is to try stop them by using tactics and skills. To play you need a curling broom, flat soled shoes, a loose shirt and mostly not needed as given to you but a curling stone.

Some History
Curling was first introduced to New Zealand by scottish immigrants in the 1860's and Thomas Callender was the first New Zealander to play, he was also known as "The father of NZ Curling." Also Thomas was the first man in NZ to make a club for curling From then on curling became a big hit and was very well known to gold miners as they would play in the winter time, still getting more and more popular through the 1920's, then came to a big halt during the second world war.

Review a Book, a movie or a game

What must be included in a review:

  • The plot but not the ending
  • The name of the book, game or movie
  • Author/director/illustrator/producer
  • Who the movie, book or game is designed for
  • Your own overall opinion about it
  • Give the main character

Born at Midnight

Born at midnight is a fantasy novel in which a girl has been having night terrors and her counsellor has persuaded her mother for her to go to Shadow Falls C amp. She notices from the minute she walked onto the bus, these people were odd. Kylie the main character is a 16 year old girl going through supposedly the worst time of her life as her nana died, her boyfriend dumped her, she has a stalker dude and her parents are getting a divorce.

Author C.C. Hunter wrote the series of Born at midnight, with 6 books and Born at Midnight being the first. Published on March 29, 2011. By St. Martin's Griffin. This book was targeted for female teens, with the book having dramatic feelings and describes what they are like and also talking about 'Hot guys' and how they feel when they touch her.

Overall for a girl related book I would give this a 9 out of 10 as it engaged me, a boy and cant wait to read the whole series starting with the next book 'Awake at Dawn.' My favorite part of the book was probably when her ghost/stalker dude talks to her and helps her with a situation about a lion.

TBC Visit

Today on the 28th November we Tauranga Intermediate year eights went to Tauranga Boys College. When we got there, there was all the year nine boys ready to give us a compulsory haka. After that Mr Mangan the Principle of TBC addressed us then let Miss Elms say who were in what class and what teacher they needed to follow. My Teachers name was Mr H and with my name called came Joshua (my friend,) Flynn and Damian (In my class.) We then walked to a classroom to find that we were in the top ninety for academic scores and would have a lot more harder work then before as well as higher expectations. Going back to gym (where we first meet altogether) we had morning tea and watched clips on the projector. Again heading outside we went to the theater where we were told that we were in the accelerate class (our teacher that we had was not supposed to tell us before) Going through to class again we grabbed our stuff and went back to the gym where we left.

Description

Looking in my side mirror seeing cars urging to get
on and off the highway, black smog with a weight of
hundreds was slowly covering over us like a predator
stalking its prey. The continuous cogs and pistons
working, was barely able to keep your eye off, moving
as fast as bullet you couldn't see them for long.

A dark smell lifted into my small nostrils, it was that of fumes of the various factories that we were going to. Burning rubber was an addition to the fumes which softened but added a more horrible smell. Amongst this there was the small scent of a women's fragrance.

Honking cars and screeching tyres like sandpaper
scratching metal, lifted up into my ears deafening me.

"I have been very motivated with my mathematics and never complain about the work you give us."

"Yes you have, you seem to very much enjoy learning new stuff and getting the highest scores with you tests."

"Every day except twice I have come to school to learn new things and expand my learning."

"So yes overall I think my behavior this year has been on the positive side."

-Mrs Mills speaking to you about the year 8 final assembly.

-Mr Scholes questioning you about your academic progress this year.

"Good morning, so what have you been learning recently?" Spoke Mr Scholes
"Well our teacher has just started teaching me about 'How to expand brackets and exponents in equations with variables'," I said.

Picnic Day

You have been given the job of organizing picnic day. List all of the questions you would need to ask Miss C in order to organize a successful picnic day.

Money:

First of all I would ask how much money is in the classroom account and how much of that we could spend

Safety:

How much parents we would need to take to the ratio of children.
Check allergies of students in class then figure what you can buy then.
Ask who can swim or has any fears of water.

Time:

What time we can leave and what time we have to get back to school
How much time we can spend on one activity if doing more than one activity

Food:

What food she is comfortable about us eating and how much she is willing to spend on food.
Where we need to set up and eating area and what we have available for that.

Need to bring:

Can we bring money and buy special things for ourselves.

200 Word Story

There was a massive crack and a reverberating boom...

The ground before us was splitting apart, everyone was screaming in panic. The crowd thought to be an earthquake, but no, something had hit the ground in the middle of everyone. It... it was a ship but none like anyone had seen the colour was a gray with a tinge of green. Chhhhhh.... a  suction  lock door opened, something was walking out, it was taller than anyone there. It was completely blue, 5 arms 2 to each side and one straight out of the back connected to its large out-sticking spine, its mouth was in its chest with multiple pincers and for its  head it only had 5 eyes and antennae sticking from the bottom. Its legs were similar those of a goat but had no hair and large sickling claws. More came out soon there were about a hundred the first one that came out then said in a low growl "zpher jkin" at first no-one knew what he said but it was again "FOR KING" in a tremendous roar then from his hand that was come from behind pulled out a rusty looking spear, the design on it was mainly of similar creatures being over won by another and had a large battle axe end to it then again saying "FOR KING" by now everyone was now running away, the vast majority of the creatures then started running to anyone that was closest to them, slaughtering person by person. I ran, but there was a creature following me it was catching up slowly but I knew I wouldn't outrun it  slowly it got to me, my feet wacked out from underneath me landing with my chest first I was winded cut up and bruised then it stood with one foot on me  raised his spear. Everything went blank, I felt cold and clammy but free although I couldn't move. Terrified a struggled nothing was working, I then realized I was gone.

12 Hour Relay Poem

Today we race for first.
Working our way to the top.
Everyone supporting the runners.
Laughing with excitement.
Verses of house chants.
Encouraging the total.

Houses slowly gaining.
Over the score of others.
Unless the runners pick up the pace.
Racing in this relay.

Resolves in a loss.
Eager to win, the race continues.
Lastly finishing with 12 hours.
Alast we find the winner.
Yelling with excitement Totara has won the race.

Homework Paleontology

Paleontology

Paleontology is the scientific study of prehistoric life which is basically dinosaurs. This subject of job studies fossils to determine the type of dinosaur and its evolution and what its environments were like. Paleontology lies on a thin line between biology and geology but very different from morphology that is modern humans/from this very century.
Paleontology has been around since the ‘5th century BC.’ It became to as a scientist named Georges Cuvier had done work on ‘comparative anatomy.’
One of the simplest ways to put Paleontology is a sentence or in another name is ‘the study of ancient life’ there are several aspects to paleontology  "their identity and origin, their environment and evolution, and what they can tell us about the Earth's organic and inorganic past"

Drug Help

I found out that my two friends smoke. I'm only 13. I don't know what to do. I am really confused. Please help.

What you should do is first think are your friends peer-pressuring you to try them because this is where WITS and REACH come into action. W-walk away, I-ignore, T-tell someone, S-say no. R-give a reason, E-give an excuse, A-assertive, C-change the subject, H-humour. Also think about what these could do to your grades and to your body, what would your parents think of what you're about to do and how this would affect their lives. These smokes would cost you all your pocket money and you would have to steal them from the shop owners because you are underage. Maybe if you had it in you, you could leave your friends because they might not be the people that you want to have around you. You might think these items would make you look cool but how cool would you be if people kept saying you look older than you are and or die before you should.

Friday The 13Th

Friday the 13th is a unlucky day brought from western civilizations. It started off with a man called Rossini who considered 13 to be an unlucky number and Friday to be an unlucky day and just so this man who had this feeling about these two things, died on Friday the 13th November 1868. But this is just one of the many superstitions that people have.

One that my grandfather believes is that four leaf lovers bring good luck so when he has nothing to do and is in a graceful mood he will go out on his farm and look for some. Once he has found one he would put it in his date book and they would remain there.

1. It is told that if you blow out all the candles on your cake with your first breath it is told that you will get whatever you wish for.

2. Or when two people grab a wishbone and both people make a wish and they pull the bone apart and the one with the larger end his/her wish comes true.

3. When a bird comes in your house it brings bad luck.

4. When a fantail comes in your house someone close to you will die in the next three days.

5. A drowned man floats face down and a drown woman floats face up.

6. When you shiver it means that someone is casting a shadow over your grave.

7. To make a happy marriage the bride has to wear something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.

8. Warm hands, cold heart. Cold hands, warm heart.

9. To give someone a wallet with no money in it brings that person bad luck.

10. Our fate is written in the stars.

Impressionism

Impressionism is when an artist takes a quick look at a scenery then goes away and paints it using bold colors and had little detail. These paintings include ‘small, thin but visible strokes.’

These types of painting were first created in Paris by a group of artists in the last twenty-five years of the nineteen hundreds.

Impressionists usually of Nature, People, Paris and Still-life.
  • Nature: Was a traditional artwork used for many different types of art, the impressionists used canvases and the pieces of art were usually of ‘rivers or fields or of haystacks’ commonly plain things you would see out in the countryside.

  • People: These pieces of art were of informal things like ‘a leisure time activities’ in outdoor places Eg: On the local river or anything like that. Or workmen in country communities at work. And also another type of paintings that you’ve all herd of nude paintings which were orderly back then but not too much now.

  • Paris: This was sparingly people wearing the latest fashions as a woman wears the newest scarf available that soots her fashion. Maybe the latest buildings or suburbs that were just getting built or the newest cars or sorts of transport.

  • Still-life: Still-life was just mainly impressionists working on there shifting of lights and shades and what happens to the affect of the photo when this is done.

Practical task: Wk 7

Practical Task Week 6

How to find the height of a tree without climbing it?

Well to carry out this experiment you need:
A partner
A pencil
A measuring tape
A tree of your choice
A bonding material

Okay what you will need to do is first find the tree of your choice.
Then grab you pencil hold it out in front of you vertically and close one eye, walk backward slowly until the pencil is the same size as the tree in your sight.
Turn the pencil vertical so its flat along the ground it your sight.
Now get your partner to stand by the tree with the measuring tape and stick the end of the tape with your bonding material to the tree.
Tell him to walk out and out with the measuring tape held to the tree until he reaches the the tip of the pencil then tell him/her to stop, then read what the number is on the tape closest to you.
That is the height of the tree.

In the past pioneers would use this method for games except they did not use the measuring tape and the bonding material. But what they would do was they would get two of all the pioneers to do the method and once they had finished they would put their lunch just out of range from the tree and if the men who did it wrong no one would get lunch as it would have gotten squished.

Washoe The Chimpanzee Week6

Washoe The Chimpanzee

Washoe was a female chimp who was the first non-human to learn American Sign Language (ASL)
and teach another sign language. Washoe managed to learn about 350 of ASL in which she taught her adopted son Louis.

Washoe was brought up like any other child, ate dinner with her trainer at a dinner table, slept in a bed with sheets and blankets whet in car trips as any family would and many other everyday aspects as well as having tooth brushes, combs, toys and books.

There was many other tests in which other Chimps were taught languages but the Garners  thought these other tests failed because Chimps do not have the ability to create human-like sounds from their voice boxes.

Washoe was born in Africa, September 1965 and passed away in 2007 October 30th. Washoe was a great deal in scientific knowledge and wont be missed and forgotten as she helped everyone understand a bit more towards the chimps and other animals about talking or communicating with humans.

Weather Poem

The sun shines bright throughout the day.
All the animals play without delay.
People jumping and shouting at the beach.
Lifeguards ready to teach.
The water sparkles in the evening light.
Catching everyones attention to the end of night.
Birds chirping in their nests.
Looking after their chicks acting like pests.
Eventually sleeping to the end of spring.

Summer is still waiting to sing.

Delayed Gratification and the Stanford Experiment

Delayed gratification and the marshmallow experiment is just a series of testing from the 1960s to 1970s led by a psychologist named Walter Mischel.

In the studies a child was given a choice to have a small treat now or two small treats like 15 minutes later (when the experimenter came back).

The studies showed that the children that were able to wait longer for the bigger reward were more likely to have better life outcomes, ‘as measured in the SAT scores’

There was six hundred children in this experiment aging from four to six. A small number of them ate the treat as soon as it was given to them and two thirds of them that tried to wait failed.

Inference

1. Felila was exhausted
You could hear her paced heavy breathing going in and out. Her face was watery, every bead you could hear drip onto the soft dirt below. Everything was silent, but still the you could hear the continuous breathing. It was getting slower. Felila sat upon the ground with a thump. I thought she had gone limp.

2. Russell was hungry
Rolling his tongue inside of his mouth. He sat laying down on the side of hole which he had fallen in through his night walk. He scraped the sides to get out but it was no use he couldn't, it was impossible. Slowly he could feel his mouth watering it to a loud bbbblllluuu before he regained consciousness. Sitting upon a pond of reflux acid. His stomach grumbled, he thought to himself will I ever be able to get out.

1. Caine was addicted to computer gaming

Finally his mother grew up the courage to say
"NO! Stop now, your grounded for the month! I have had enough of this nonsense!"
"Whatever mum I'll do it when I want to do it, you're not the boss of me!"]
Ripping out the power plug Caine's Mum the room.

2.Maia felt sick
Maia bent over clenching her stomach, her face went pale, you could see her eyes starting to water. As soon as she stood up she dropped to the ground with vigorous speed "aaaahhhh chhhoo" snot flung all around the room, she sniffed the rest of the snot dipping from her nose up. She ran downs stairs struggling to keep herself up shouting "Mum, Mum" She only made into the kitchen before her mouth started watering and something was building up.

XO Laptop

XO Laptop

The Xo laptop is a new laptop that can swivel its screen 360 degrees. It was designed to help children in “developing” countries around the world. This laptop is also known as the $100 laptop. These laptops are teaching people how to understand the concept of marketing . In the sunlight you can still see the screen clear as it has a certain screen that has been genetically modified for that reason. They have flash memory instead of a hard drive. It has been designed to be cheap to buy as many is needed for the countries that have a lower economical rating. And as seen in the image to the Left < there is a pope receiving a XO laptop.

I have a cement base that is continuously being strained by the weight of passengers. There is glass covering the majority of me.
I bend and twist by the force of the wind against me. I used to live in America, New York, Manhattan.
I was destroyed or relocated in 2001 and my height was an achievement towards man making the highest building.

Augmented Reality

Augmented Reality

Augmented reality also known as AR is a smudged line between real and computer generated by enhancing what we smell see feel and hear.

One example is televisions, as now they are trying and succeeding to bring out the televisions graphics into your living room like the newest televisions. You could put a live recording on you television where you can add things to make your appearance or surroundings different but if someone were to look at you away from the T.V they would not be able to see what you have done to your appearance or surroundings.
That is augmented reality.

Augmented reality could be just making a video of you say tapping a table in different spots then once you have recorded that you add in buttons under your fingers and when you tap it goes down and makes a sound. Using that you could make a really cool beat or anything you desire from something simple.
Here are some pictures of augmented reality

5 Jokes

The Blonde and the blinker

Two blondes were driving down the road. The blonde driving looks at her friend in the passenger seat and asks her to see if the blinker is working. So the blonde looks out the window and says "yes, no, yes, no."

Blonde appendicitis

A blonde has a sharp pain in her side. The doctor examines her and says, "you have acute appendicitis."
The blonde says, "thats sweet doc, but I came here to get medical help."

The golfers confession
A man goes to the confessional. "Forgive me father, for I have sinned."
"What is your sin, my child?" The priest asks back.
"Well," the man starts, "I used some horrible language this week and feel absolutely terrible."
"When did you do use this awful language?" said the priest.
"I was golfing and hit an incredible drive that looked like it was going to go over 250 yards, but it struck a phone line that was hanging over the fairway and fell straight down to the ground after going only about 100 yards."
"Is that when you swore?"
"No, Father." Said the man.
"After that, a squirrel ran out of the bushes and grabbed my ball in his mouth and began to run away."
Is THAT when you swore?" asked the Father again.
"Well, no." said the man, "You see, as the squirrel was running, an eagle came down out of the sky, grabbed the squirrel in his talons and began to fly away!"
"Is THAT when you swore?" asked the amazed Priest.
"No, not yet." The man replied. "As the eagle carried the squirrel away in his claws, it flew towards the green. And as it passed over a bit of forest near the green, the squirrel dropped my ball."
"Did you swear THEN?" asked the now impatient Priest.
"No, because as the ball fell it struck a tree, bounced through some bushes, careened off a big rock, and rolled through a sand trap onto the green and stopped within six inches of the hole."
"You missed the damn putt, didn't you?" sighed the Priest.

Cross Country

Tauranga Intermediate school cross country is an event that was taken on Monday 24th of June 2013 where kids specified on age and engender will run together to fight for first place.
The race is a big part towards winning the spirit trophy as say you came 76th your number is a value of 76 and the house that has the lowest number wins.

The highlight of the day was being able to run with one of my friends that has the same speed as me and sprinting at the end to try and stay infront of someone that was coming from behind.

First was the year seven girls then the year seven boys, but our school could not wait until everyone came back so the year seven boys went whilst some of the girls were still running. Then year eight girls then last of all that included me year eight boy's.

My final position was 103rd which was a slight disappointment as last year I got 74th but at least I tried to get a noble position for my liking.

Extinct Animal

Spinosaurus

The Spinosaurus was found in the now North Africa with a average length of 12.6-18 meters. This giant surpod was one of the biggest carnivores between the Cretaceous period living only 112- 97 million years ago. The species of dinosaurs extinction was from the k-t extinction when a meteorite 180km wide came into Earth atmosphere then came plummeting towards the ground when it hit Earth it set off earthquakes, volcanos erupting and the sky covered in a think black smoke disabling plants growth then killing the herbisaurs then starving the carnivores. The reason the spinosaurus got its name was because of its extremely large spine that comes out of its back which could be use to cool itself down.

Graveyard Vist

On Friday 31st May, room 42 had an unusual visit to 17th ave cemetery. We went there to do our new statistics sample, there was many different options that we could do Kodi and I chose to see how many people had died of an unnatural death. We soon figured that the only people that had told you were killed in action aka soldiers. Miss campbell our teacher then told us to see what percentage of the cemetery where killed in each decade. Before our trip back to school we had to was our hands because of a maori tradition to was the tapu off you to become noa.

My Weekend

To the start of weekend the A hockey team had the first game that mattered towards winning. It started off as a team talk about our positions and I was annoyed to find that I was not going to be on for the start. Then we did our normal routine of exercises and stretches which came with heavy puffs, now time for turf warmup in a system from passing firmly to another person then they pass to another then to the last one and they hit the ball at the goal. Then our coach said that one of the players thats usually on the opposite side to the position left fullback would not be coming until last half. Which I was relieved to eventually go on turf. First half of the game came a lot of defending.

My Weekend

During the weekend I tried out for the hockey reps that was held all Sunday 16th June. The boys reps trials for U13 was held from 1pm-3pm. First we were split into four teams according to our numbers then had to do a twelve minute run around the hockey field which by estimate was 300m and I did eight point five laps which came to a total of 2.55km. Then our groups were split into doing pushing and hitting, mini games, stick work and dribbling. The group I was in had to do pushing and hitting I tried my best to make all my pushes firm and accurate aswel as my hits but at the end I was called back to do another hit which could be bad or good?

After my last hit we were moved to mini games and were put into positions that we played usually, the game went slowly for me at the start of the game as all the ball time was held on the right side of the field. Evidently one of the players in my team got told off for hogging the ball in such a short period of time and the ball was then evenly split all across the field of only 150m perimeter.

We were then moved again to go to dribbling and stick work when the previous game was sitting at 3-2 to us. We were ran through the drill then we got to do the drill without being timed in which I took my time, then we were to do it the fastest as we could go and by estimate I think I did it in about 1minute and 30 seconds. Whilst I was waiting I was trying out a newly accomplished trick, the reverse hit. Hitting the boundary softly aswel teaching the other boys how to do it by putting out your right leg and swinging at the ball at a diagonally down then leveling out when near the ball.

Idiom

My idiom found: All bark and no bite

What it means: The saying means that someone can threaten you but will not do anything. As a dog does when you walk past I may look threatening by the bark but does not bite.

When can you use this idiom?: When someone is shouting at you but they can practically do nothing as they like said "before All bark and no bite."

He has a small rough beard and hands stained of hard labour and is always cheerful by smiling at you even he though looks sad. He was named lammy because he was the youngest of the bunch and smallest. Although I dont know his real name but been told a few times. When I ask why he is like he is and my siblings they tell me that he liked the opposite sex and tried to commit suicide. When he talks he mumbles in a low unsatisfied tone but nice as if its accompanying. Always willing to help and never complains is what he does.

Charging Laptops At School

Well as you may not know Rimu students are not allowed to charge their laptops at school and this blog post is to give you the negatives and positives.

  • What are the negatives of Rimu students charging their laptops at school?

Well the bill for charging the laptops for 6 hours and for 200 days a year comes to  a bill of $6450 in which case could be a good or bad.

People could trip with the numerous cords all around the classroom and fall over them or pull the laptop  with him/her.

  • What are 2 of the suggestions for solving the problem?
We could charge our laptops during lunch as most computers would die around then and people wont get entangled with them.

We could have a charging station at the back of the classroom where only the people that have their laptop dead or dying could charge their laptop.

10 I Dont Knows

1. I wonder why humans have such a vien thought that he are the smartest animals on earth, chimpanzees  have smarter ideas then that of young children. How to get a pingpong ball out of a small tube and beside them they have a stick and a jug of water and guess what the chimpanzee got the ball out of the tube by pouring the water down the tube. The children were still there poking sticks down to try get it out.

1.Answer: N/A

2. I wonder how the universe has such a complex system as we have a sun and the sun spins around with a gravitational pull make every planet Mercury, Venus, Earth Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and last of all Pluto one of the newest discovered planets to our solar system spin around the sun and with other millions if not billions of different solar system.

2. Answer: N/A

3. I wonder how and why in the Arctic when you mine down say about 200m in the ice the next week the end of hole will not be reachable as the ice moves and will close part of it off. Some Arctic stations have been know to move 150 meters.

3. Answer: The magnetic north pole moves in loops at about 50 miles per day and the magnetic pole moves in about 25 miles per year. The pole has move about 685 miles in the last 150 years. The poles can switch and the last time they switched 780,000 years ago and has happened about 400 times in the last 330 million years.

4. I wonder how glass over hundreds or thousands of years would become uneven and make out a liquid like happening.

4. Answer Glass flows but it does not take hundreds or thousands of years but millions of years for you to be able to see any noticeable change. The room temperature is about 0.01poises and at that temperature it would take as said before millions of years. But behind my previous theory years ago glass makers could not make a perfectly flat piece of glass pain so they put the bigger end on the bottom so people thought it had turned to liquid then refroze.

Short Story

The day had been good I had gone fishing and had caught several well known nile tilapia and the temperature was sitting at a low 20. I had only just arrived to the muddy shore of my tent then ground rumbled beneath me, I had known it came from the tent. The curiosity was building up in me, then I got the curage to finally look and to my terror there was a 11 foot beast with teeth the size of tusks and light gray skin in the tent. It stood staring at me for what felt like hours before it moved to the dark side of my tent to continue into its cool shade, eating the entire tray of sponge gourd.

It took me a while to think how I could get this beast away then it hit me it enjoyed the gourd so why wont it come for that. I slowly made a quiet journey towards the tent knowing that the slightest sound could set this giant after me. I finally had made my way to the entrance and picked up a handful of gourd in my wet hands. The gourd had been trampled by this giant beast but hopefully it would eat it.

The giant turned lowly make its ways through the straw tent, the ground crushed under what seemed like a him. His jaws opened and I held out the gourd as far as my arms could reach, the pain was drawing my arm to lower but the fact that this beast needs to go kept it up. He came out this was my chance I threw the gourd over to the shore bank as though the beast did't like his food thrown around he didn't go for it. I stood there for while thinking what to do, then a baby hippo and a cow came swimming together. My heart sank below my ribs and the bull came out of the tent and slowly made its way to its young.

Heart Rate

Heart rate is how many beats per minute a pulse . The average heart rate for the following things are: New born baby 120-160, aged 1-12 months 80-140, 1-2 years 80-130, 2-6 years 75-120, child 7-12 years 75-110, 18+ 60-100. There are many places where you can check your pulse like under your ankle or on the side of your neck were the windpipe is. When you exercise your heart rate increases as more oxygen is needed in your mussels. To determine your max bpm you go for me 220 - your age and for women 226 - your age

Room 43 Visit

Yesterday on the 27th of May 2013 we (my group of 5) went to introduce ourselves to the new room 43 a satellite class as the last building the had was burnt down by an electrical fault caused by a conditioning system overheating. Bobby one of the satellite children gave us quick tour of the new classroom and showed what he does for the day. When we walked into the main room the other children were looking at how many planets there are and what planet do we live on. The satellite children share their room with one other person in the classroom that they get along with very well. There was one girl that was at the back of the classroom with a sign language teacher who was helping her learn the girl's name was Emma.

Weekend

Surprisingly on friday we played Aquinas but for the first time we played them we drew 1 all. But as soon as the game started they got a pc (Penalty corner) to us but then we regained ourselves and made friday one game that we will remember as we thrashed Aquinas eight-nil even know it was an easy game at the end it taught us a lot as we learnt new things. But I unfortunately had some pain during our hockey match as in my groin area there was a sharp pain and had to ask to come off but when it went away I went back on but to find it coming back so I had to take it a bit slow and jog instead of running. When I told my mum (as she's a nurse) and she just laughed at me.

A5 Rimu Tree Study

Rimu trees are native to New Zealand and in which live up to 300 years old. Rimu trees are easily seen in a forest as its leaves are long and look similar to seaweed. Their trunks are extremely straight and tower up to 50m tall and with a diameter 2m. A Rimu tree can be looking into a 800 to 900 years of age in which I would be bored to live that long not doing much. The Rimu tree is used especially for furniture and building the Maori may have used the rimu tree for long straight masts on there ships.

Major Science Discovery

John Dalton

The scientist born in 1766 named John Dalton was the discoverer of the atom. His theory was elements consisted of microscopic particles so called atoms. In it it states that an element was consisted of only one atom and all the atoms that make up the resource or element have the same mass, but the masses have a effect of the element which would change like iron and gold for the two have different masses. A compound a pure substance, to different elements bonded together to create it. Although compounds have a mixed ratio of atoms and each atom has its own characteristic weight. As well his theory includes chemical reactions involve the rearrangement of combinations of atoms.

Famous Scientists

Erwin Schrodinger

Erwin Schrodinger lived for 74 years being born in 1887 and passing away in 1961 he died accompanied by his mistress. He was Australia starting off as a pioner, but even when his family hit financial disaster achievement was still possible. His interests were language ancient and modern, maths, physics and poetry. At the age of 27 he achieved the highest possible academic degree, representing a scholarship (This degree is called habilitation.) His papers explained how different energy states of atoms electrons could be described in via wave equations. His greatest achievement was the schrodinger equation contributed profoundly to the understanding of subatomic behavior.

Science Experiment

Dose A Rubberband Shrink or Expand When Heated

A science experiment that I have done in the past would have to be one I did at this current intermediate school, we had an experiment that included a rubberband a lighter and a ruler. We first made a hypothesis on whether it would shrink or expand then Mr Marsh measured the rubberband then put a lighter not too far away from the rubberband but just far away to heat up the rubberband. After he had finish heating up the rubberband he measured the rubberband not twice but three times to get an accurate measurement on how long the rubberband was now. But Im not going to tell you what happened because I want to try it.

Camp

Camp Activity: high ropes, vertical playpen
I'm proud that I completed the vertical playpen as for my first try I didn't succeed with only getting to the second plank and having to hop down. But with my second try and some encouragement from my team plus mentoring by Miss Shepherd, I slowly made my way past the hardest obstacle. (A rope held on each end by a plank of wood and the middle dangling down.) Then climbed past the next obstacles and then the last I and pulled my body up through the tyre to finish.

Camp Activity: Clash of Camp, food eating
Believe it or not, eight different kids including me had to eat for the clash of the camp activity a dry wheat bix with tomato sauce and whipped cream for a solid and for the drink we drunk 3 raw eggs mustard some popcorn, jam, peanut butter, pumpkin, whipped cream and some hot chili sauce. Most of the kids that ate this puked including me but there where some able to hold it in and drink whatever it was.

Camp Activity: Paintball
The most rewarding thing would have to be paintball as you have the great bruises to show all you family that your tough and can take a hit from a paintball gun. Although paintball hurts its the most rewarding thing as that most people don't get the chance to play paintball as it costs a fair bit and takes a lot of guts to play something that you know hurts and have a great game of paintball.

News Post-International

New Zealand has decided that the same sex will be able to get legally married. Last night parlement voted to allow the same sex be married but some religious groups were against the law, parlement have been debating heavily over the last year for the law. New Zealand is now the 13th country to have same sex marriages.

My comment is, its good because I have two aunties that are lesbians and they will be able to get married now if they want.

New Post-International

A US man's dog has eaten $500 worth of 5 hundred dollar bills. The owner of the dog was eating dinner at a restaurant and it seems the dog got hungry whist waiting. After the dog had finished processing the money the owner took out the hundred dollar bills and sent them to US Treasury Dept and they said it will take about two years for him to be able get the money back.
Money after being eaten

My comment about this happening is quite funny but sad as he left the dog in the car for how many hours or minutes while he was eating dinner. To have prevented this money being eat say if he wasn't living in an apartment he could have left him/her in the back yard.

News Post-International

Twitter has just discovered that about half of Justin Bieber's followers are fake which should make Lady Gaga first for the most amount of followers on Twitter. Justin Bieber  had 37.3 million total followers but actually only 17.8 were real account users. Twitter found these out by spotting users with followers and seeing if reasonable Tweets or posts have been sent and has some or no spamming.

My thought about this is quite stupid because why would you make numerous Twitter accounts just make an ordinary person have more followers.

News Post-International

Nik Wallenda has announced that he will tightrope across the Grand Canyon in June. This is his first major stunt since his last tightrope across Niagara Falls last year. Wallenda is the seventh generation of the Flying Wallendas a family acrobatics group. “This is another one of my dreams coming true," Nik Wallenda told reporters in a telephone interview. He is Planing to do this new event 500m in the air without an safety harness.

My comment about the event is that I personally would not like to do such of a thing comparing that I have a slight fear of heights.

Homework Expectations

Amount
We think that 30-45 minutes every weeknight is a reasonable expectation for homework. Per week that equals approximately 2.5 hours per week of homework.
2 terms = 20 weeks. Every homework task should take you 5 hours to do.

Quality
You need to work on each homework task for at least 2.5 to 5 hours. It should like it was done by a year 8 student. The product you make (if relevant) should look good quality.

Blog Post
- must be at least 2 paragraphs
- has to be punctuated correctly, spell checked and no errors
- you must include which category and task number in your post title so Miss C can sign you off.

News Post-National

New Zealand has now made a new law that no one under 18 can be able to use a sun bed and also prevents anyone that has fair skin to be able to use a sun bed as well . The health minister Jo Goodhew had announced the law last week to decrease skin cancer rates. The new law will take place at the end of the year 2013.

My comment about this new law is that I personally like the idea of trying to decrease the number of skin cancer cases in New Zealand as I had an uncle that died to skin cancer.

Over a two day period has been a cat beauty competition in which 200 cats have been brought to Romania to have the judges look at their cat and a Canadian Sphinx has won the competition even know for its bewildering ugliness it was presented well from the eye of the judges and one of these cats you could be looking at $5000.

My thought about the competition is really bad because other cat owners all around the world will feel bad to have there cat not in the competition or the had lost the competition. But I think the cat that won wasn't the best looking cat if I had an opinion.

On 6th of April 2013 it was the World Pillow Fight Day and which is the fifth time countries have celebrated this event and in which thousands of people have participated throughout the hour. The pillow fight only lasts for one hour but no-one actually got hurt and the two top rules are no hitting anyone with a pair glasses or no hitting people really hard. The countries or citys that celebrated this event were Hong Kong, London, Chicago, Boston, Toronto, Amsterdam, Sao Paulo, Barcelona and Zurich. The event is so that many people can jump around and let go of access energy plus have a lot of fun.

My though about this event would be that I would have enjoyed every aspect of this day but sadly my country and or my town did not celebrate this event

P1 Bike 120Km Within a 12 Week Period

On Monday morning I had officially biked 122.4km over the last 8 weeks of school I would have finished a bit earlier but my bike had a flat tyre and I had to learn how to mend it which my stepdad helped me with.

This is how I figured it out.
If I biked 10.2km to and from school for 10 days then I biked to my friends house which was 12.2km plus 10.2 today it would equal 122.4km which was my goal.

I am still biking every wednesday to school for Hockey as it helps with my fitness. At weekends I bike to my friends for the thrill of the bike ride and for me to know that I am keeping fit and healthy. I completed this challenge because it was an activity the crossed over with my usual life and its homework.

Homework P1 Play a sport for an entire season

On Wednesday 27 March I had officially joined into playing hockey as I am in the first XI team which I did not make last year at Tauranga intermediate school. I am very proud of myself as to show I have improved over the last year. Some of my team mates are Luke G Ethan L and Scott H. In the games that I have played with the A team last and this year I have noticed that the movement is much quicker and I enjoy it being fast as you get fitter faster throughout the season. My Highlight of being in the A team is I can play with some of my friends at the Aims Games and try ro get a better place.

Rimu House Swimming Sports

On Friday 22 of March 2013 Rimu House went on a trip to Memorial pools at Memorial park.
There were eight events 25 free, 25 backstroke, 25 breaststroke, 25 dolphin dive, 25 doggie paddle, 50 free, underwater and class relay. I participated in all the events except 50m and class relay only placed in one of these events and that was 25 backstroke and I came third. After we had finished the events we had a free swim but the only problem was we weren't allowed  to touch the lane ropes and several people had to hop out because of that.

I enjoyed that I was able to miss most of the school day and do something fun instead. A memory of swimming sports will be of Hoani being beaten by Mr Mossop.

Homework S4 teaching my baby brother how to play at the neighbors independently

During the last couple of weeks I have finally taught my four year old baby brother how to play over at the neighbors independently. He is to ask if he can go over and then ask if he can come in and play.
It took a while as he has always had me to help him or look after him so getting him detached was the hardest part of the job. His name is Hayden he enjoys going over the fence but most of the time when the answer is no he puts whines
3 Things that I have learnt: Are I can do a lot more in a short period of time than I thought, how to use keynote better and how to upload a video to youtube 2 Benefits of working with your partner: We knew more about each other and I realized that he knows a lot more keynote than me. 1 Difficulty that you over came: uploading to youtube.
